You should never start a sentence this way...

...because it really sucks to be on the receiving end of a dictate.

Case in point, right?

If your sentence is advice...

try starting with, "I think..." because that's really what you're offering: your thoughts. 

If your sentence is an invitation...

allow your words and actions to open the door, "Would you like..." or "I'd love to invite you..." because what you're doing is asking someone to join you. How nice. 

If your sentence is a command...

then let it be so by saying, "I need you to..." because what you're really demanding is that YOUR needs be met in some way. Using guilt to fulfill desire usually results in disgust or anger for all parties involved. 

I think it's time we paused for a moment to figure out how to respectfully engage with each other. Imagine how thoughtful, inviting and fulfilling that could be.
